Unf***ing Your Life

This morning I would like to address a couple of topics that seem to have some people confused. I’m speaking to the difference between Awakening and Enlightenment and, perhaps more importantly, the difference between Visualization and Manifestation.
Let’s deal with the easiest one first. I have Awakened but I am not Enlightened. The truth is more like I am Enlightened, and trying to raise my consciousness until my physical reality matches my thought matrix. In other words, I had an Awakening experience wherein I suddenly realized that what I took for who I really am and all of reality are actually illusions. I awakened to the fact that there are as many realities as there are beings in the Universe.
I’m not making this up as I go along here. This is science and, admittedly, a healthy dose of common sense. Here’s the deal. Our mind or consciousness is like the operating system for our brain. Our brain is the computer-like organ that processes our reality. Our body is the vehicle the brain rides around in and is the medium through which we experience the physical world.
The brain is inside a dark box called our skull. It’s only contact with the outside world is through the physical receptors in our body, called our senses. Our senses experience the physical world and relay their experience to the brain through electro-chemical impulses. Our brains then must clearly receive and then process the inputs, then search through an entire lifetime (or more) of memories to find a pattern that matches the inputs as closely as possible; generating ‘understanding.’
Now here’s where the difference between Awakening and Enlightenment becomes apparent. Awakening is a process through which the individual realizes that there is a serious problem with ‘reality’ and then intentionally goes looking behind all the curtains to see what or who is operating the machine. You know that you have been asleep and everything you take for granted as real…isn’t.
I’m not going to argue here whether or not reality is objective or subjective. That’s the topic of another series of blogs. Suffice to say that once you’re Awakened, you cannot accept what you see and experience at face value and rather, you surrender any illusion of control, point your feet downstream and allow the flow of life to carry you along being fully aware of the experience, but accepting everything and expecting nothing.
Then a wonderful thing happens. You begin to understand on a much deeper level. You begin to allow yourself to ‘know’ without thinking. You trust your intuition and question everything. It’s an exciting, but also confusing and sometimes, frustrating journey.
That’s the point. Awakening is a PROCESS that begins with the realization that we are infinitely more than the meat-sack we call a body, and the limited capacity of our brains and sleeping minds. Once you have that realization, you are faced with a choice. You can continue down the path of questioning and further Awakening or you can roll over and go back to sleep. It’s unbelievable to me how many people choose the latter.
Enlightenment on the other hand is usually an isolated and individual experience wherein, the being Awakens so completely and suddenly that understanding and purpose immediately become apparent. And here’s the big kicker, “Once seen, the truth cannot be unseen.” Once you figure it all out, there’s no going back to Kansas Toto. Be careful what you ask for, because the Universe has an ironic sense of humor and Enlightenment is definitely a double-edged sword.
Now, let’s turn our attention to the difference between Visualization and Manifestation.
Much like Awakening and Enlightenment, Visualization is a necessary but insufficient process to effectively realize Manifestation. Visualization involves thinking about and developing a very clear mental picture of what you want your reality to be. Most spiritual teachers will tell you that that’s enough and to release your desire for the vision, and simply act as if it’s a foregone conclusion that your reality will align with your vision. Not necessarily so.
While it’s absolutely vital to have a crystal clear concept of what you want to manifest in your life, you also have to have a sense of time and feelings of realization before your visualization will materialize. You see, most people think of what they don’t have and want as something in the future, but as you know, the future simply doesn’t exist; it’s an illusion. The real secret of manifestation is to not only clearly see yourself with your heart’s desire, but to FEEL how you will feel when it becomes material in your life. You have to set your thoughts and feelings into the mindset that you already have, right now this minute, what you are trying to manifest.
Set your intention. Clearly see and feel your thoughts as material manifestations of reality right now this minute. Then, let it go and clear and calm your mind and go to that place of no thought and let the Universe worry about the delivery schedule.
Another ‘trick’ many people find accelerates their manifestation practice is to set your first intention on achieving a deep and abiding sense of gratitude and joy for what you already have. Yeah, I know; you’re broke; your significant other is being a jerk; your job sucks; your boss is a pain in the ass…..keep filling in the blanks. When you’re done, take a minute to realize that you are alive. You may think of yourself as poor, but even if you are, you are poor in the richest country in the history of the planet; what you call poverty, most other countries call Middle Class or even well off. Then you realize that even though other people and your job are a pain in the ass, your life would be much emptier and poorer without them. That’s when you truly begin to develop a sense of gratitude for the reality you have already manifested by your choices. Only then, can you begin to consciously rewire your reality into something more preferable.
I know it sounds like magical thinking and New Age bullshit, but what have you got to lose? Give it a try for a week. I promise you that if you practice this for just 10 or 15 minutes every day, you will be absolutely amazed at the abundance that begins to appear in your reality.
In the meantime, have an intentionally grateful, joyous and rewarding day.
